McCree, Abdullah, Answers At Safety?

August 19, 2008

John Lynch is gone. It is tragic. Though we have to move on and keep our chin up through the rest of the season. His departure may hurt the team but it will not destroy us. We can still be playoff threats.

Though it makes us ask the question about whether we are going to be able to hold down the position at Safety this next year. I question whether Marlon McCree and Hamza Abdullah are the answers at Safety. They are both decent players but I have a right to worry.

McCree is a decent Safety who is great at nabbing Interceptions. But he is also the kind of player who will ruin a play. He will not guard well enough and before you know it, your opponents are in the Red Zone. It is something to worry about. But he is also a play maker. He can turn a play into an INT and stop a drive. He is very topsy turvy.

Abdullah is only an okay Safety. He is not a play maker. But he will not hurt a play either. So there is not much to say about him. He is okay and can once in a while deliver a hard hit, but you do not want him to be the best Safety on your team....
