Nats Release Lopez, O’s Interested?

July 31, 2008

Awhile back, the O’s were rumored to be kicking the tires on National’s 2nd baseman/Shortstop/Underachiever Felipe Lopez. No trade happened and the O’s added Alex Cintron and Juan Castro to bandaid the gapping wound at shortstop.

Well, Felipe_Lopez_(along_with_Paul_Lo_Duca)_has_been_released.

Question is, do you want Felipe Lopez? Lopez has never lived_up_to_the_hype, but what’s the harm of giving him a shot for a few months? He’s only 28. He might flop and be gone at season’s end or he might be decent and fill the gap til the O’s find a longterm solution at short. Although the fact that he’s being cast off by the miserable Nats is not a ringing endorsement.
